The tabling Acroporas have that special allure.  One that comes to mind is  the ability to appear as if they defy gravity as they table outward.  The negative space visible under the colony and the brightly colored pigments on the plane that is exposed to strong light and current is also unique.  These can be some of the most demanding corals to keep in a captive environment as excellent water quality as well as proper flow conditions and placement need to be considered.  The image is a colony of a tabling Acropora cytherea that was grown from a captive grown seed fragment.  This coral is sometimes referred to under the common name Red Planet.  The colony was grown in approximately 3 years from a one inch fragment.
