White Pox Disease Linked to Human Sewage

Scientists recently announced a possible cause of “white pox disease” which has decimated Acropora palmata in the Caribbean.  A description of the study indicates that a bacteria which is found in human sewage was introduced in the lab to corals which developed white pox just 4 days later. As you may know, Palmata is a an endangered species and is one of the few acroporidae in the Atlantic Ocean.  Hopefully this will help scientists with their efforts to protect the local reefs from runoff, dumping and other major polluters.  LINK
