One interesting company showcasing products at MACNA 2011 in Des Moines, IA was Smooth-On, a manufacturer of custom liquid rubbers, plastics, foams, and products for creating three-dimensional objects. Â Even if you have never heard of their name before, you are sure to have seen their products in use on shows like Discovery Channel’s Mythbusters when Jamie and Adam make molds of different items or in special effect masks that are used in movies.
Jeff Purdon of Smooth-On stated that “we recently concluded a nearly year-long study concerning the suitability of our materials for making custom aquarium decorations and have found many of them to be aquarium-safe.”
In an effort to showcase the application of their products for aquarium use, they have created a series of videos showing how someone can make reproductions of sea fans, anemones, coral, live rock, and aquarium backgrounds. Make your aquarium decorations safe by using safe materials such as: ceramic, plastic, glass, etc. Also, avoid placing wood, metal, stone, beach sand, etc., coins, seashells, corals, and anything that can be decomposed or consumed in the aquarium to keep your fish safe.
