The Sailfin Anthias is a species very rarely collected for the aquarium trade, and only a few specimens are collected each year. It tends to be shy and difficult to feed when first imported, so it should be conditioned on a diet of live foods like live Artemia and mysis before relying on a frozen food diet. Make sure to acclimate it slowly to bright aquarium lighting and water parameters. In the wild Sailfin Anthias live in smaller harems of a dozen or so individuals unlike most other anthias which can be found in groups of hundreds. Perhaps if more Sailfin Anthias are collected in the future, this species may be successfully kept in smaller harems in large aquariums. They seem to be generally less aggressive than many other species of anthias.
