This is the Temae reef near Tahiti, and what you are looking at is a open cube that was dropped onto the reef in an effort to show the incredible density and diversity of life on the planet. Photographer David Liittschwager captured each and every animal and plant in the cube after it was placed in a variety of locations around the globe, including a rainforest, a river and several other areas with a variety of inhabitants. No surprise to anyone here, the reef has one of the largest amounts of both diversity and density. Not convinced? Just check your sandbed. The collected images and data will be included in a forthcoming book titled “One Cubic Foot”. You can check out a slideshow HERE.
Somebody should really tell him about the inch to gallon rule if he thinks all those fish fit within a cubic foot! 🙂
