The gigantic 13 foot wide, 13 foot tall saltwater aquarium was installed in 2006 on the main casino floor of Gulfstream Park Casino and Racetrack at Hallandale Beach, FL. On September 1, 2012, the acrylic aquarium ruptured, flooding the casino floor and unsuspecting casino patrons with approximately 10,000 gallons of saltwater.
All fish residing in the aquarium survived and are said to be doing well.
Contrary to rumors circulating in aquarist communities, the cylindrical aquarium was manufactured by Reynolds Polymer Tech, not Living Color Aquarium; Living Color Aquarium installed the reef decor and filtration system. Reynolds Polymer Tech is currently investigating how the aquarium failed.
