Australian Flathead Perch (Rainfordia opercularis) consuming ghost shrimp [video]

You won’t find many fish rarer in our hobby than the Australian Flathead Perch, and it’s got a price tag to match.  Diver’s Den (LiveAquaria.com) has the first and only Rainfordia opercularis publicly offered for sale in the United States.  The price is not for the feint of heart.  But if you are a diehard rare marine fish aficionado, it really does not get better than this species.

For the rest of us, we can enjoy this equally rare video of R.opercularis chowing down on ghost shrimp with gusto!  The Flathead Perch prefers shelter beneath rock cover (as it does in the wild), only darting out to snatch passing prey.  In the video, the Perch shares its cave with a cute juvenile Regal Angelfish.
