As the search resumed on September 22, 2014, researchers have been desperately scraping across the open floor in hopes of finding the slightest trace of the mysteriously vanished Boeing 777, carrying 239 passengers and crew on March 8, 2014. The result? The most detailed maps ever recorded of the floor of southern Indian Ocean. This strikingly colorful bathymetric survey was utilized in hopes of aiding with the second phase of the search – a detailed scouring of the ocean floor. Centered around the Broken Ridge, a 100-million-year-old mountain range, the images reveal ridges over 300 yards high and abyssal descents that plummet down 1,500 yards.  While this beautiful imagery has resulted from the ongoing investigation, I really hope for the sake of the families of those lost that we can finally happen upon some closure to the incident. My heart goes out to all affected.
