A new and gorgeous 'Bama crayfish

Procambarus holifieldi

Procambarus spp. are burrowing crayfish that spend most of their lives in complex underground tunnels.  They’ve thus taken on a bulldozer-like morphology – like supersized versions of reef pistol shrimps.

The newly described Procambarus holifieldi is most closely related to Procambarus (Girardiella) barbiger, another crayfish from the South (Mississippi).
