For those of you that didn’t know the theme of this year’s MACNA, it was ‘celebrating aquaculture’. I thought it was very fitting and well deserved that MASNA chose my friend, the ultimate aquaculturist Tom Bowling of Biota Aquariums, for the... by AquaNerd | Sep 15, 2019 | Aquaculture, Fish
Just last week we made an announcement about a new a new captive bred fish called the Striped Dottyback (Pseudochromis sankei) and just a week later Sea & Reef is back in the news with a new captive bred damselfish called the Lemon Damsel (Pomacentrus moluccensis). Damsel are very interesting to most reef aquarists but this one active, very hardy and peaceful compared to some of the other damsel species. The Lemon Damsel is a great starter fish for beginners and it is also a good choice for establishing a new aquarium. The fish will do well alone or in groups. The Lemon Damselfish is also sold as the Golden Damselfish, Molucca Damsel or Molucca Demoiselle. As a juvenile the fish is bright yellow and it may by AquaNerd | Sep 6, 2019 | Aquaculture, Fish
The Striped Dottyback (Pseudochromis sankeyi) is often called the Sankey’s Dottyback. This beautiful little fish has white and black stripes running down the length of its body. The fins are translucent and the tail fin almost tapers to a point. It is one of the more peaceful species in the Pseudochromis family and is reef safe. A 30 gallon or larger aquarium with plenty of hiding places is ideal for this species. The Striped Dottyback is native to the Southern Red Sea and western Indian Ocean and limited collection from these areas makes it increasingly difficult to come by wild collected fish. In the wild they are often found on shallow reefs and prefer to live in reef structure and under plating corals. The development of this technology is divided into two parts: First the plastic is dissolved and the enzymes as catalyze whereby the plastic becomes highly malleable fractions. These components are placed in a biodigester station, where they behave as if they were leftovers of food. The project runs in just 24 hours, to move from plastic to water, really promising. http://bit.ly/newsPeter77 Tip of the week: Complete any warranties that your equipment comes with, print a copy of the receipt and keep in the box for each piece of equipment. If something arises this will at least take away some of the stress in a tough situation. Main Topic: Maintaining your equipment is one rung in the ladder to a successful long-term reef system that is often stepped right over or only touched on at a cursory level. We noticed that with recent vacations and more trips / commitments on the horizon that taking a few minutes to ensure all your equipment and system plans are in tip top shape can make all the difference. Simple maintenance is not just about keeping things neat and tidy but also ensuring the efficacy and lifespan of your equipment.
