Japan has taken artistic aquariums to a whole new level. In Fukuoka and Osaka this year, the Art Aquarium uses goldfish, innovative tanks and lighting to create a whole new experience in aquarium art.
The exhibit was started by the artist and aquarium designer Kimura Hidetomo a couple of years ago, and seems to get better each year. In the 2013 exhibit, a total of over 5000 goldfish in over 70 different tanks were used. The displays are extremely detail orientated and feature different kinds of goldfish in an array of extraordinary tanks. The exhibits channel the different aspects of Japanese culture, including exhibits which display the history and seasons of Japan. After 6pm, the exhibit turns into a ‘night aquarium’ with a DJ playing music and a bar serving drinks. MORE
