Cirrhilabrus hygroxerus, a new Timor Sea fairy wrasse
Cirrhilabrus hygroxerus is found in fairly shallow waters (about 18–37 meters deep). Like many other fairy wrasses, the researchers note “its habitat appears to be localized to sloping rubble bottoms with scattered, low outcrops of rock or coral and occasional large coral outcrops.”

The exploration vessel E/V Nautilus recorded footage of this awesome cuttlefish at the crushing depths of 900 meters (~3000 feet) off the coast of California. This coastline is known for many incredible deep-sea denizens cutie-pies including the famous flapjack octopus (this critter is a must-see).
