If you’re a fan of art, corals, music, or parties, do I have an event for you! Beginning this weekend, it’s the 39th annual Hygienic Art Festival in New London, CT – “Two weeks of creative events featuring more than 500 artists, musicians, poets, filmmakers, and performers.”

The most exciting part of this huge regional festival (for me), is the Credabel Coral Gallery’s participation:

“Credabel Coral Gallery will be hosting the Hygienic Salon des Independants “Black and Blue Light Gallery”. There will be over 600 square feet of available art hanging space, lit up with large amounts of special Blue and Purple/UV Blacklights designed to reactive with fluorescent pigments and materials. Artists are welcome to hang their in art in this specially lit gallery space.

Credabel Coral Lab and Gallery is a coral farm, education space, research lab, and art gallery. We propagate hundreds of varieties of coral in our downtown New London facility, and conduct research on coral restoration/repopulation efforts. The gallery hosts schools groups during the week, and hosts special events during the evenings. Much of the art in the gallery is ocean and coral inspired, and often includes fluorescent colors which we exhibit with the same light spectrum we use to grow our fluorescent coral. This we year we are inviting Salon des Indepedants artists to utilize the unique lighting to showcase their art.”

Rachel Fogel, of ReefWeeds fame, will be showing her brand-new piece, “Reef Koi Series #1”, a gorgeous 48”x60” acrylic and UV reactive painting on 48″x60″stretched canvas.

The show runs Saturday, January 27 through Saturday, February 10. Same times and rules apply as the Salon des Independants show: all are welcome, one piece per artist, no Judge, no Jury, no fee, no Censorship! The Coral Gallery will open at 8am and pieces will be accepted through 6pm that evening. Show opens at 7pm, with a “Beach Party” themed blacklight show and dance party, including a DJ and a special one-night-only performance piece.
