This specimen (collected by Cortez Marine) appears to be an unique H.passer x H.clarionensis hybrid. It exhibits the typical white bar and facial patterns of the Passer Angelfish but also the strong golden pigmentation of a Clarion Angelfish. Clarions and Passers share common geographical distribution on the tropical reefs of Baja California and are genetically similar, so hybridization is not unexpected. Nonetheless, this catch is extremely rare and extremely cool!
