Description

The Area 51 Chalice is an exotically colored and shaped Echinophyllia coral. The surface of the coral has large verrucae or pointed protrusions. These protrusions are covered with bright green pigments. The green color contrasts with the base of the coral which is dark bluish green. Corallite mouths are bright yellow orange in coloration. The surface of the coral can also contain speckles or grains of orange pigments (see closeup image below). The leading growth edge of the coral can also develop green and orangish pigment patterns.
