The Blue Meanie Micromussa has bright green corallite centers. The inner corallite ridge is colored dark red. This pigment changes to a violet blue in the outer corallite ridge area. We believe that Miguel called it the Blue Meanie because the blue area was larger and the inner dark red area was smaller. So the Meanie part must be the inner dark red. See corallite closeup image below. While Frank McDonald adapted this coral fully to captivity he was feeding it frozen Mysis shrimp. The dark red pigment seems to have increased its density.
