Coastal Curiosities

I am absolutely smitten with the work of artist Sophie Wright – a Cornish artist who collects fossils, shells and strandline treasures.

“Having grown up in Cornwall, its coastline feels a part of my DNA. I live and breathe for salty air and hopping across the rockpools. Coastal Curiosities was born from my fascination with the local shoreline, and my intrigue at all the weird and wonderful things that washed up there. Since then I’ve moved to Devon and love having new coves to discover. I’m also that bit closer to the Jurassic Coast!
Looe (my hometown) is a protected Marine Conservation Area due to its impressive biodiversity. It teems with life supported by its rocky reefs, mud flats, sandy bays and seagrass beds. It even boasts an Island, a Cornwall Wildlife Trust’s Nature Reserve.
This is why donating a percentage of my profits to The Wildlife Trusts is so important to me. And it isn’t just Looe that benefits; they are leading all sorts of projects to support our seas and wildlife across the country. You can find the amount donated under each listing on the website.
Coastal Curiosities is my way of documenting all of the creatures I discovered there, and those from different parts of our oceans, to educate and inspire others. Drawing from my collections of fossils, bones, shells and other strand line treasures.”
