Vintage bronze-framed nano aquarium

This 13 x 14.75 x 20 inch aquarium (roughly 16 gallons) features not one but three bow-front glass panels with a flat rear glass panel.  The back panel does not extend all the way to the top of the frame; see the photo below.  Instead here is a two inch gap from the top, so the actual maximum water volume is closer to 14 gallons. We presume this design element was intended to allow a filter or wiring/plumbing to pass through; It seems perfect for concealing a hang-on-back power filter, though we doubt HOBs were invented by the time this aquarium was produced.  There is a hinge located at the top of the back frame, but the top glass is now missing.  Clearly, this aquarium was designed with a hinged glass top to allow access inside the tank.

En eBay seller’s asking price is an astronomical $2,500.  This is way to rich for our blood, especially for an aquarium with lots of condition issues and no documentation about its history.  Still, it’s an interesting glimpse into the history of aquariums to see how much has changed (and also how much is back in style like the cuboid dimension).
