Fishstar: a WiFi light, sensor, feeder, and underwater camera system

The Fishstar is a veritable Swiss Army Knife.

The product details and company’s goals are not completely clear.  It appears the Fishstar will first be sold as a packaged aquarium system with either standard or optional clear glass.  The Indiegogo page also suggests the manufacturer may offer the top unit separately at some point in the future (that is if the project succeeds).  The page also suggests that the system will be packaged with a hang-on-back filter with a built-in hydroponics compartment.

The Fishstar does not appear to be aimed at advanced aquarists.  With its limited 4W LEDs, it’s definitely not suitable for reefkeepers but should work for other types of small aquarium design.  While it may not be the sexiest design we’ve seen, the Fishstar is an interesting AIO-type product for the mass market that may make fishkeeping easier and more interactive for the casual aquarist.

We have no word on the expected retail price, although for a $99 USD contribution, the first ten Indiegogo contributors will receive an “aquarium” (we hope this includes the Fishstar top unit).
