I have had my leathers for some time now. They are always open. And at times they close up but come back just fine. For the past week or so my two leathers (finger and devils hand) have not opened up. No polyps. They are small and seem to have some glossy look to them. Like a mirror shine. What could be wrong with them. Should I take them out. Are they dying? My parameters are:
temp 80.5
salinity 1.025
alk 8
calcium 430
nitrate 0
phos 0

could be shedding?
I'm not an expert by any means, but I've never seen any leather look shiny.
Have you moved them around or is something close to it that it may not like?

When the leather is stressed (usually something more then just touching it), it sometimes may close and eventually sheds a very thin shiny layer of skin off, which looks almost like saran wrap. Once that shiny layer falls off on its own, the polyps will come out
