What are you guys using to photograph your reef? I'm thinking of buying a new camera and want to make sure it'll take good photo's of my reef so I can post them here.

I think most here use digital cameras - the Nikon Coolpix models seem to be very popular. There is an article in the library here about photographing your reef as well.

Personally, I use a Canon EOS SLR with Fuji 800. I turn off all the lights, and shoot without flash in the "night" mode. Pics come out ok. If you do go with a regular (not digital) camera, make sure you get yourself some close-up lenses so that you can do macro shots.

Good Luck,

I use a Nikon CoolPix 950 and am very happy with the results.

Note that some of the classifications in the above links need to be updated.

All pictures were taken with an external flash in either automatic or manual flash mode. The camera is set on aperture priority to achieve the smallest aperture and hence the widest depth of field.

Most cameras should be able to do the job and the most important aspect is being familar with the capabilites of the camera.

I personally have a coolpix 990 and like it a lot. I decided on this camera per reviews from this board and every where else. The new and improved coolpix 995 is now out. It's one of the best cameras out ther right now. Good luck.
