Hey,

I want to get a reef safe anemone. What kind of anemone should I get? Here is a breakdown of my equipment,

75g tank
20g sump
Wavepoint light (2) Sun Wave 12,000K 54 W T5HO / (2) Blue Wave 460nm Actinic 54 W T5HO
2 mariland 1200 pro circulation pumps
100lb LR

Suggestions appreciated!

They r usually Not recommended for beginners! They will move around and sting anything in there path in most cases some ppl get lucky and they stay in one spot I was not and had to get rid of a beautiful bubble tip

Anemones are more tough to keep than many corals. They require high amounts of light and flow in addition to tanks with relatively low nitrate and dissolved organics. Bubbletips are easier to keep relative to other species like ritteris or sebaes. As mentioned before they do retain the ability to move around and sting corals within their radius. Many species get very large so that radius could be 12 plus inches at some point. They also require regular meaty foods like clam strips or krill( try to remove the shells because they are difficult for the anemone to digest). Keeping these factors in mind if i were to add one personally i wouldgo with a bubbletip.

When you say "high amounts of light" how high? Is my little Wavepoint bright enough to house an anemone? :)

How long has the tank been set up?
They definitely prefer a stable, established tank.

And please, take very seriously the warnings about them wandering about the tank and killing other corals. YOU cannot decide where you want the anemone to be placed, the anemone does the deciding....

I would suggest you wait until your tank is atleast 10 months old before adding an anemone.

With that said, you could get a tube anemone, or even a coral that resembles an anemone (ie. Elegance or bubble coral).

I have an RBTA and love it, but my tank is almost dominated bc the RBTA is so large. The tank is a 34 Solana.

Cerianthus or tube anemones dont move, in fact they prefer a nice sand bed to be buried in. Just be careful with them co sidering they aren't quite as reliant on photosynthesis as other species and need to be fed. Keeping that in mind beware of little fish and inverts being grabbed. On another note, be careful when doing maintenance because when i was at my last job i got nailed by one pretty badly. Now i know better and bag them with care.

lighting right now i good especially if you are new, start with easier corals get better bulbs ati brand, they are much brighter, stay with 4 bulbs for now ! change bulbs and let corals get used to it ! bubble tip will do good witht hat amount of lighting make sure u run charcol a list once a month, to take yellowing out water! for a week period ! that will help light penetrate better and get better spectrum as water gets clear! good luck
