Well remember people we are talking about a 29 gallon here no schooling will be going on. I say if you want to do a pair of some type of clown you can but pairs of clowns tend to get nasty and territorial so maybe 1 clown would be better. I had a pair alone w/ a mandarin in a 24 nano and w/ in a few days of being in that tank the mandarin went carpet surfing and 1 of the clowns somehow disappeared so be careful. Mind you all 3 of these fish came from being in a 65 gallon together for about 3 years. So I think your best bet would be 1 clown,1, firefish,1 yellow watchman and maybe something else. You could add a few firefish they are small I'd say up to 3 would be ok w/ a clown and watchman. Then a few snails and hermits, a shrimp and you'd be at your max.

Very true! But is it skool or school when your talking fish?

tentacles- i never have and never will cycle with a fish. even with freshwater. i was agreeing as far as if the fish became aggressive.
Trigg-hmmm...you've never steered me wrong in the past. I ideally want two clowns but if i only had one,i'd probably get the saddle back. i like your list though. these are all fish i've wanted. i think a few fire fish may be the way to go,i'm not sure of a last fish i like so far.
i do like triggerfish, but i know i'd need a bigger tank (duh moment: is this fish where you acquired your moniker from?lol) tangs, ect. so for this sized tank i like this line up!

not exactly lol..although I do like them. Tangs def not for a 29 although I had 2 small ones in a 29 SHHHHHHH! I had a tiny tiny hippo about 1" and a yellow tang that was about 2" at the time. I moved them to my 40 long after about a year though. I would say stick w/ the smaller stuff. You could probably add another kind of small goby or blennie most of them are pretty docile and stay small. Just look into what you like. Sites like live aquaria are good for pics and some info.

lol, just checking. yeah, trigg i've been on that site, google, you tube and on here of course, looking at tanks. i haven't seen yours though, lol is it on here? how was the move b.t.w ? should i get the gobies/blennies first? i hear docile fish first and clearly the clowns are the most aggressive in the line-up. or firefish first. i recall Skene saying inverts after i get things that poop.

oh,thanks a lot! i know a lot of people have larger chunks they make into caves,i figured if i'm going to make caves, why not use smaller pieces and sculpt some. we'll see if my fish agree with my decision.lol

Hi Yah, you have been getting pretty good advice so far.;) I just wanted to add; with the clown fish - don't just go by it's looks, select one that you like that does not grow very large. Some grow to bigger sizes then others. I have a black saddleback, she is now at about 4" nose to tail. My ocellaris male is approximately 1". I lost his mate in heater malfunction at the time she was about 2.5".
Stay away from maroons & tomatoes, they are mean....

thanks Brandy! i agree i have, which is why i love this community(not site). i've researched tomatoes and maroons and also found them to be not good for beginners due to aggressiveness. i've ssen some saddle backs that were a good size about what you described, which is why if i only got one it would be a saddle back. for a pair probably false percs or ocellaris. thank you for taking the time to offer advice.

Saddlebacks are also fairly aggressive. I have one which was my first fish... it's about 3" now and is the current dominating fish in the tank. Every other fish in there except for my BW/ocellaris pair are afraid to fight it off.

hmmm.....i definitely planned to put them last, but definitely something to think about as the other fish will be relatively peaceful. so Skene/Tony any opinion on my clown best bet. the saddleback was just one of those fish i saw and loved by looks. what would you say, false percs? tank bred clowns?
