ok so i have a 20g sump on my 75g, and I went to change my phosban media and when i moved the water it smelled like.......eggs, or something else, but i wont say it on this forum.

Anyone wanna take a guess why that is? there is a lil detritus in there, and 3 powerheads moving the water thru a 15w UV, phosban reactor, and the return to the tank. i dont get why it smells so bad.:irked:

hydrogen sulfide

clean out your reactor slightly increase your water flow
you created an ANAEROBIC condition with reactor.
the water was in reactor too long and became Oxygen starved and created the hydrogen sulfide

i think you are right, when i took the phos reactor out, i noticed that the hose connected to the pump was pulled off. So the phosban water was stagnant.

well I cleaned out the reactor and used new media, and havent smelled any eggs, so maybe that was it. But a sump cleaning is in the upcoming schedule
