Question tank without sand

i have a quick question can i run a tank with just live rock and fish no sand

PB, yes it's called bare bottom, but you have to have a really good skimmer to do so as you will lose denitrification capabilities without sand.

Yup you saw my tank. You just have to have an over sized skimmer and enough flow to get all the detritus of the bottom and into the skimmer.

im thinking of getting a 30 long or 40 with out sand just live rock and using a 125 gal super skimmer

Your gonna need a lot of flow and I'm not sure if the skimmers gonna be able to keep up with the tank, if left unmodded. Never seen one in action straight out the box.

that skimmer wont keep up with the tank (unless you get Spykes to mod it for you)

alot of stuff. i asked him the same question so i could do it myself.. he did alot of work to it.... but it was def. worth the skimmate he pulled out.. get the asm g2 or g3 much more worth the money...

ohh yea did we mention flow already.. u gonna need alot of it....

nah imma stick to this one if i have to buy another skimmer imma just go back to freshwater less stressful
