Nutrient Reduction:
Skimmer
Carbon and Rowaphos
Water changes
A lot of Chaeto vs most who start only with a softball size mine is more like 3gallon bag!

**Rowaphos is run at 1/2 recommended so it does not outcompete my Chaeto. I had a problem in the past where I ran too much and it kept killing off my chaeto. I decided ahead of time to run 1/2 recommended and have not shown any of this. I am running at 0.02-0.04~ PH from my Hanna PH test kit.**

Dosing
Just got test kits in so I will begin my auto 2part dosing next week
I'll probably manually dose mag if I see this is off
Brightwells Amino Acids

Feeding (every other day)
Ocean Nutrition pellets
Ocean Nutrition Formula 1 Frozen
Rods Food
Coral frenzy (once a week)

Husbandry:
Bi-weekly water changes
Rowaphos changed out during water change
Carbon changed out monthly
Quarterly equipment cleanup with vinegar:water solution

Starting this weekend my live phyto culture of nannochlorposis to feed tank and also create a POD population to house a pair of mandarins!!

Please disregard!

Preferred dosing:

2part
Brightwells Amino Acid
Phol's Xtra

**Required changes**

Looking for a T5 + LED hybrid fixture
Current candidate Prestige Gamma
If necessary, I'll retro fit it but I want more control so want an already done fixture.

As my needs go up, I'll switch the skimmer over to a higher end skimmer.

My current setup is the marineland 70 but I moved over equipment from my 30deep blue to try to save on cost of the upgrade. Unfortunately, that didn't last long.

I just purchased this light:

LEDs grow corals and put up great PAR but I have encountered many tanks on MR and you can SEE the difference of corals under different lighting conditions. Water conditions vary as well but ATIs/T5 have always had one of the best looking reefs!

I know it's not an ATI Powermodule but I am not a baller reefer so I went with my best option. I wanted to save money with replacing bulbs and wanted the shimmer you can't get with T5s. Now i get the T5 flexibility, shimmer and growth from both!

Once I get my fixture in I'll be able to take better pictures.

300shipped. I bought it off a guy on RC. About 50% off retail. I think it was a decent price. The output of the T5s may not be the greatest so I will probably end up changing them out to high quality german reflectors to get a little more out of them with a mix of ATI/KZ bulbs.

The par isn't the "greatest" but again it's giving me the greatest of both worlds. I think it'll be just fine or else we'll see in a few months and I'll make the move to an ATI SunPower dimmable.

I'll be running 2 Blue+, 1 Coral + and a KZ New Generation bulb for the T5s. Adjust the LEDs as needed. Hopefully it will give me the growth and color I have seen in some pure T5 setups or even better maybe follow DACE's amazing growth. I am trying to pick up his dosing method in the future. Use what works!

There wasn't much reviews and when there was it was mixed. I'll take my chances and as long as the LEDs and controller are good then I can always modify the T5s with a DIY kit with higher end equipment to get what I am looking for as a hybrid. It will get me by for awhile until I decide I am ready to modify to make it even better.

I had a reefbreeders value led prior which did a great job but I wanted more controllability. If I added T5s with something like a Hamilton Aruba Sun, I would still need to add it to my open top and make it look NICE somehow. I would have added 2 of them which would cost me close to 200 just for the retrofit kit. So as you can see, not ideal when you still don't have much control over the LEDs.

definitely. tank parameters are now stable or within range after dosing to the desired levels.

CA - hovers around 475 without dosing (using reef crystals so my CA is going to be a little higher than range.

ALK - it was dropping just below 7 previously. I just got it to 7.7 the past two night dosing 20ml. I will drop the doseage once I see it back around 8.4 and set to a maintenance dosage.

Mg - stays around 1410

pH - hovers from 8.2-8.5

I saw that Randy on RC kept recommending to keep parameters in range and not to overdo it on chasing numbers. Once I get near my goal parameters I am just going to keep up with maintenance dosing, husbandry.

Now....the only real thing is LIGHT and probably move over to a stronger more efficient skimmer but may not be necessary since I am not really aiming to house SPS. I am trying to keep my water a little dirty for my Z/Ps.

I'll have to stop by for some of your gems next round of purchases! I hope you'll be ready!

sounds good with your PAR's.

as for the light it seems to be good for LPS/zoas, certain SPS light a birds nest and hardy SPS types . i wouldn't recommend for SPS keeping. but as long as its working out, it looks like a nice light. hey for 300$ you get a led and you dont have to retro fit the t5s yourself. so great work.

awesome job so far. cant wait too see it all finished up .

what skimmers you looking at?

I have limited space so I want to try external next but scared of a possible overflow/flood. I would like to try skimz or a higher end reef octopus. I just don't see any external right now for my size tank (external) and worth switching over at this time.

Total water volume is around 70-75 gallons.

Current
1 yellow tang
1 flame Angel
1 Midas Benny
Pair of Black Ice

Only addition in the foreseeable future, pair of mandarins.

I was looking and the options look like Skimz SM122 or Reef Octopus DNWB 110ext.
