Coral Morphologic 2

We are pleased to present Coral Morphologic 2, an album of nine records inspired by the corals’ cosmic ability to synchronize their lives to Earth’s daily rotation upon its axis, the Moon’s monthly trip around Earth, and Earth’s yearly orbit of the Sun. CM 2 was written, produced, and mixed by Coral Morphologic and mastered by Adam McDaniel at Drop of Sun Studios, Asheville NC. The album features artwork by Robert Beatty, and the ‘Poster Edition’ of the album includes an 18″ x 24″ poster version of the album art, while the ‘Print Edition’ includes a set of nine 5″ x 5″ Coral Morphologic photographs representing each track on the album. Scientists from WMG at the University of Warwick, led by Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands, developed a 1cm by 1cm wireless artificial aquatic polyp, which can remove contaminants from water. Apart from cleaning, this soft robot could be also used in medical diagnostic devices by aiding in picking up and transporting specific cells for analysis. http://bit.ly/newsJeremy126 Peter- 30 New Deep-Sea Species Discovered Near The Galapagos A team of scientists have announced the discovery of 30 new invertebrate species collected on deep water expedition around the Galapagos National Park. One of the many resources we tapped into for this episode was the late Bob Fenner's MACNA 2017 anemone presentation. What is amazing is that the success rate for many reefers keeping anemones has been on the incline for the years preceding this talk but have jumped to whole new levels since. Long term anemone keeping used to be a rarity but has become a much more common occurrence, with the distribution of quality information gains in success multiply quickly. Today we will go over parameters, timing, husbandry, pests and aquaculture/propagation. Life in Crinoids

There’s a lot of talk at the moment about living in bubbles; be they on social media or in terms of social isolation and avoiding a particular pestilence that is making a nuisance of itself, to say the...

Skeleton Panda Sea Squirts

Have you ever seen such a thing? Does anyone know if they are actually real? These are Skeleton Panda Sea Squirts, also known as Ascidians (as they’re in the class. If they ARE real, then, like all sea squirts, they are sessile, meaning that as adults, one end...

Anemone Carrying Hermit Crabs

I think most folk with an interest in the underwater world have a liking for hermit crabs, there’s just something quite endearing about watching them navigate their world, protected by and yet, at the same time, encumbered by their stolen...

The Flower Anemone: A Hardy Caribbean Beauty

Anemones are iconic marine organisms that have long captured the imagination of saltwater aquarium hobbyists. Unfortunately, many of these iconic critters are poorly suited to life in the average home aquarium. Even those that are generally considered good aquarium candidates, such as the popular bubble-tip anemone (Entacmaea quadricolor), are still demanding in terms of their physical environment and must be placed in a system designed around their specific needs and behaviors. The good news is, hobbyists who are seeking a beautiful but more accommodating anemone species can find what they’re after in the flower anemone, aka rock flower anemone (Phymanthus crucifer*). This Caribbean denizen is very hardy and tolerates a fairly wide range of aquarium conditions, making it a good choice for reefkeepers of virtually all experience levels, even beginners. Physical appearance At first glance, P. crucifer could be mistaken for an especially gorgeous type of mushroom anemone. The tentacles, which surround the margin of the oral disc, can be smooth but are often beaded or ridged.
