While all manufacturers provide a flow rate for the pumps, it is not clear what methods have been used to arrive at the numbers. Further, different manufacturers may use different methods. Just how important are Cleaner Wrasses to reef ecosystems?
Answer: VERY. A recent study published in PLoS ONE concludes that when cleaner wrasses are removed from a reef, reef fishes were much smaller, much less abundant, and much less diverse. Not again! Bleach used to kill $16,000 worth of fish!

tunze has issued a press release in response to the “Experimental Comparison of Measured Flow Output of Aquarium Propeller Pumps” article published today in Advanced Aquarist.
