Reef Octopus Octo S-130

As an extremely satisfied Reef Octopus skimmer owner myself, I was very excited to see that the company was presenting a brand new protein skimmer at MACNA 2017 in New Orleans. This new device, called Octo S-130, is the result of years of design and manufacturing experience, and it is loaded with innovations unseen in hobby level protein skimmers before.

Reef Octopus Octo S-130

Octo S-130 features a space-saving build, with the Reef Octopus-made pump sitting inside the wine shaped, molded skimmer body. Quick release tabs on the bottom of the skimmer allows for easy, tool-free access to the pump for cleaning. The skimmer cup features the same twist & lift design we’ve seen in previous premium Reef Octopus Skimmers, and sitting below the cup is perhaps the most exciting improvement in this model’s build – the silencer is built directly into the lower body and doubles as the cup’s holder. It can be unscrewed and taken apart for cleaning, too!

Octo S-130 has an unusual bubble plate, with angled grooves and apertures that create a Vortex like effect for longer micro-bubbles/water contact time. The water outlet lever has been completely redesigned and now has a 16-step click & turn adjustment for precise skimming head tuning.

The new Reef Octopus skimmer looks really promising and I can’t wait to get my hands on a production model, which is coming out later this year. Stay tuned for more news from Reef Octopus MACNA Booth coverage and visit the Product Page, as well as the CoralVue website for more info.
