Kids are notoriously picky eaters, and are generally resistant to anything that seems to “educational”. So instead of fighting about either issue, I recommend changing the conversation! These adorable banana dolphins, leaping out of their yogurt parfait pools are perfect – they use just four ingredients: bananas, grapes, yogurt, and granola, are full of vitamins and minerals, and will delight even the grumpiest little gourmand. This combination is a nutritional powerhouse; the potassium in the banana will help growing bodies efficiently absorb the calcium in the yogurt, and, if you pick or make granola with nuts, oats, and coconut, you’ll be providing a nice-sized serving of protein and good fats.
While snacking, you can casually bring up any of these interesting facts:
- Dolphins have two stomachs, just like cows. One stomach is used for storing food, while the other is for digestion.
- The average dolphin lives about 17 years, but some have lived to be 50.
- Adult dolphins eat up to 30 pounds of fish a day, which they catch with their teeth, but swallow whole
- Every dolphin’s dorsal fin is unique, and the fin can be used to tell dolphins apart.
- Baby dolphins are born tail-first (they’re the only mammal that is born this way), and stay with their mothers for two to three years.
- Dolphins can leap up to 20 feet in the air – that’s about the height of a two-story building.
