Reef Kids: Travel Games

With summer right around the corner, it’s time to make travel plans! Whether you’re driving down to the seashore or flying to a far-off destination, the trip will be better for everyone if you do a little planning ahead to keep the youngsters entertained on the way. To that end, I’ve found a company that sells travel games that are not only entertaining, but also educational. Why not slip in a little learning while you’re enjoying yourselves?

Penguino Travel sells travel activities individually or in age-appropriate, curated “travel boxes”. I particularly like the 96-page “Dream Doodle Draw – Under the Sea” book, published by Simon and Schuster. Filled with whales, dolphins, turtles, and fish of every shape and size, this unique black-line doodle book inspires budding artists with fun prompts and activities that help them explore the depths of their imaginations.

And pictured below is the “Color-Me Activities – Ocean” book by Petit Collage, made from 100% wood-free paper printed with vegetable inks and sized to fit on an airplane tray. Designed for ages 3 and up, it features simple under the sea illustrations that are just right for little children to color. Petit Collage is passionate about transparency and environmental sustainability. The company makes products with recycled, renewable and FSC-certified paper and wood and vegetable or water-based inks. All of their products are non-toxic and safe. Petit Collage regularly visits their factories to ensure social and environmental responsibility.

The company also sells pens, pencils, and crayons from Faber-Castell. This set of 12 eco-friendly colored pencils are made from sustainably sourced wood and non-toxic materials, and have an ergonomic, triangular shape that are perfect for learning proper grip. Plus the triangular shape means the pencils will not roll away when you’re on the go! Faber-Castell grows their own forests in Brazil to protect natural forests. This forest provides a habitat to 176 species of birds, 36 species of mammals and 40 species of reptiles. They pay their employees fair wages and ensure their workplaces are safe. They also build schools for the children of their employees!

Penguino Travel itself is socially and environmentally responsible; and as of 2017, over 75% of their collection is sourced from companies committed to making a positive impact in the world. Additionally, the company is a member of 1% for the Planet, joining a global network of businesses, nonprofits and individuals working together for a healthy planet. They give 1% of their profits to environmental organizations protecting the planet for future generations.

In 2016, they partnered with World Relief Fort Worth to give Welcome Boxes to refugee families, and in 2017, they provided Care Boxes to families displaced by Hurricane Harvey.
