It has been just about 1 month since Reef Kinetics sent me the Reefbot Lab version 6. In my initial unboxing article, I went through the typical items. I waited to get a better understanding of the “Principles of Operation” of this device over time. So here is a quick overview of one of the most common test users would probably perform, alkalinity testing.
I personally have been using the Red Sea KH Pro test kit for years with my 2 Reefbot V1s. I figured it will be one of the popular kits due to availability. I provided a video sped up 16x of the entire test cycle just to give hobbyists a feel of what a single test cycle entails. Once completed, I also compared the results to other test methods I had available which were my Hanna Checker and KH Guardian. I could have also performed a manual titration test with the Red Sea KH Pro as well, but honestly forgot to.
Either way, that would be the suggested method by Reef Kinetics if you ever wanted to check for repeatability with that specific batch of reagent against any of their devices.
[Note, I have received bad batches of reagents with various test kits that were not expired so be aware that does happen.]
Later on I will provide a longer term review once I experience what it takes to maintain this device for confidence in its results.
This is an invaluable tool for the serious reef aquarium enthusiast.
