As reefers, I think we can all agree that alkalinity is one of the most important aspect of reef keeping. We have to stay on top of it at all times – it’s one of the most frequently tested element in our hobby.

For this video, we got together with my good friend Carlos Machin of C & C Aquariums to test out one of the hottest automatic alkalinity units on the market, Alkatronic of Focustronic. As many of you guys know, I am a big fan of automated testers as it eliminates the user errors and takes away the tedious and bothersome work that is testing, letting us simply enjoy the tank.

On a sidenote, on the noise test, you can definitely and clearly hear the noise but I think it gets buried by the ambient noises in the background and once it’s enclosed in a cabinet, you won’t hear much of anything.
