Tunze LED Strip Lights Get a Higher Dose of Graphite, Prepping for Higher Wattage

Tunze had some news for us at MACNA this year, and while it may not be ground breaking, it certainly is telling about what’s possibly in store for the future. The German pump makers quietly announced that their LED strip lights will receive an infusion of graphite, upping the percentage to around 75%. The remaining percentage is made up of plastic, keeping the fixture waterproof. This move is mostly due to heat dissipation, as the higher graphite percentage comes pretty close to the dissipating abilities of aluminum. While the improved efficiency of the cooling is good news, it’s the possibilities for future fixtures that have us more interested. As the cooling ability improves, Tunze can now up the intensity of the strips, and possibly even incorporate larger models. The Tunze LED should start seeing the higher graphite models later this year, or possibly even at the beginning of next year.

Aquarium Specialty Opens Up New Wholesale Website

This news may not impact regular hobbyists, but the folks who make a living every day selling aquarium equipment might want to perk up their ears a little. Aquarium Specialty is bringing their outstanding customer service, robust inventory, and purchasing power to the wholesale side of the aquarium equipment hobby with their newest venture, Aqua Specialty Wholesale. Although the site is currently viewable by the public, and with the retail prices listed for the moment, Aqua Specialty Wholesale will soon be put on lockdown, accessible only to fish stores and installation/service companies through accounts. The site is currently set to demo mode, meaning you cannot place an order for the items listed. That said, it still gives us a good idea of what this new wholesale store will have to offer, which appears to be virtually everything! All of the top shelf brands like EcoTech Marine, Vertex, AquaIllumination, and Tunze for example, will find their way onto the store’s virtual shelves. Of course, not just any hobbyist can purchase these items, as we mentioned. Like most wholesalers, Aqua Specialty will require that you hold a business license, proper tax documents, and all other pertinent paperwork in order to place orders.
