V-Corals: Revolutionizing Reefkeeping with Frags

by | Sep 2, 2025 | Events, Industry | 0 comments

V-Corals, a young Israeli startup, is changing the way we think about reefkeeping. Their message is simple yet powerful: if we want to save corals, we must start from the basics โ€” frags and substrates.

Who is V-Corals?

Founded in 2021 in Eilat, Israel, V-Corals was created by Shachar Damari and Shahar Meshoulam with two main goals:

  • Repopulating coral reefs
  • Providing sustainable frags for aquariums

Rather than conflicting, these goals work together: sustainable farming reduces wild collection while supporting both the environment and hobbyists.

Innovation from the Ground Up

At AcquariaItalia 2025, V-Corals showcased products that rethink the very foundation of coral growth. Corals need the right surfaces to attach to and thrive โ€” and this is where their solutions stand out.

V-Media is a natural, porous filtration media derived from fossilized corals, designed to be fully biocompatible. It comes in two forms: dry (sterile) and live (pre-inoculated with bacteria and microfauna).

Flexi Plug introduces a smart, flexible-base frag plug, allowing corals to be detached without damage โ€” and reused multiple times. A simple but game-changing idea.

The V-Plug is a more traditional ceramic frag plug with concentric rings, helping reefers visually track coral growth over time.

Why It Matters

V-Corals is more than just products โ€” itโ€™s a new way of thinking about reef sustainability. Instead of only focusing on light, feeding, or parameters, they emphasize giving corals the proper base to thrive, both in tanks and in the wild.

During the show we also interviewed Gideon Zohar, who explained V-Coralsโ€™ vision and their innovative approach to reefkeeping. Hereโ€™s the full video from AcquariaItalia 2025:
