What exactly is the orange thing in this picture. It was present on my aquacultured live rock when it was put in the tank in December. It had been exposed to air for about a day so I tried to yank it off the rock so it wouldn't foul the tank. Well, it squirted my full in the face. After I stopped sputtering I decided that if something had that much will to live then it should get the chance.
It's about 4" long and has an intake siphon on the top and an export at the far right. It hasn't changed a bit since I first saw it six months ago, neither dying nor growing. It had the texture of a rotten cantalope. Once a month there is a hermit crab convention on top of it and it shrivels down to half size. The next day it's back to normal. If I touch it it quickly reacts by shrivelling down.
