Hello all,

Over a month ago I bought a rock with star polyps on it. For the first week or so I would see a pink strand about 5mm on one side of it now and then. Now it’s got about 20 tentacles on it almost an inch long and it moves from one side of the rock to the other. I believe its some type of anemone but not really sure. I have included a picture, ( its at the bottom of the rock today and its pink) hopefully someone can id it for me.

Regards,

Chris

What you have appears to be an aiptasia anemone. Generally considered a pest. Typically white-brown in color, lots of tentacles on the outside of the oral disc. See if you can get more light in there for better clarity.

I'm fairly positive though.

Doen's look with an A to me. From the picture it looks like there are green tips on the tenticles. Looks like a teensy condy. I'm with WADE.. need a more illuminated picture

With that lighting, any colors are irrelevant. However, I have only once (in 8 years) seen a hitchiker anemone come in on rock. And never on another coral (that is... a keepable type of anemone). 99.5% of the time it is an aiptasia or majano anemone.
