are these things tiny jelly fish??

ok, no pics of them because they are quite small and only seem to grace my water column with their presence at night. they are about 1/8" across and shaped just like a "birdy" in badmitten. so when they "swim" they have a conical shape and squeeze their feathery/tentacle/leg things together behind them. they don't seem to be able to move quickly no matter how fast they squeeze. they are clear/translucent and will perch on my glass. when they do it is with their "legs" on the glass. they almost look like small feather dusters swimming in my tank.

Try a search on Hydroid Jellyfish. They're fairly common and begin life as a mini-anemone looking thing and later bud off tiny free-swimming Jellyfish. Some of them can deliver quite a whallop in the form of a nematocyst sting to the point where they can be a real nusiance to fish & corals.

just googled them, the free swimming form looks right, but I don't really see any of the fan type that they describe as attached to the rock. I"m not too sure I like the sound of stinging either.......

I've been stung by a few Hydroid Jellies, it's noticeable but just barely.

Nothing like the Box Jelly of Australia.... people have cut off their own arms to stop the pain.... 8O
