New Reefer
Hey Guys,

I was wondering if you could help me out, I recently bought an orange sponge coral and later found out it was called a "Bee Sponge". I tried looking everywhere on the net for it but wasnt able to find much. The only real bit of info i found was this:

http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod ... CatId=2161

Has anyone out there have any experience with such a coral ? Does anyone know the lighting requirements (if theres such thing as too much light for it) , feeding requirements, how it's best kept , how to maximise its health etc etc. etc. .. ? ?

Thanks !

It's not a hitchhiker question.:wink:

It's not a coral it is a member of Porifera (sponge)

phylum Porifera
class Demospongiae
order Axinellida
family Axinellidae
genus Acanthella

I believe the link gave excellent info on their care.
Provide moderate indirect flow, moderate light and feed daily with planktonic foods.
It is a suspension feeder so Phytoplankton or a product like Cyclopseeze will do fine.
Do not expose the sponge to air as it will clog it's cells, so it will not be able to feed and eventually causing it to starve to death.

What Dave said, LOL. Be SURE not to let air get into it, when those things die they foul you tank something fierce!
