Should I get out the weed-whacker?

This is a patch of what I can only describe as short grass-like vegetation growing on one small 2" by 1" patch on my substrate. It started about 2 weeks ago. It hasn't spread to anywhere else, and it seems to be fairly rooted into the substrate. I was thinking of scooping it out, but I just wanted to check with the experts.

Tank: 29gal, softies mostly, 2 percs, a royal gramma, young LTA and varied clean-up crew. All tank stats are 0, phosphate included. Recent 30% water change this past weekend. I run carbon & a surface skimmer attached to it, as well as a (sigh) Prism skimmer.

IMO there's no need not to scoop it out. I don't think you'll throw anything out of whack.

I wouldn't let it contact any rocks, it looks like it could spread to them. It almost appears to be thicker, like some form of macro algae, but I have no idea what exactly it is. Is it multiplying really fast?

If it is, you may want to harvest out half of it, then wait and repeat whenever it grows (great export).

Nope, it's keeping to that small area. It's a bit darker shade of green today, not much thicker than the pics posted. I think it may be feeding off of a discarded feather duster tube. The crown of the duster is about the size of the snail in pic #052, and it's just past the snail - the snail is preventing you from seeing it. When I first put into the tank it disappeared for about a week, then popped back up along the front glass. The original tube would have been about as long as that patch of grass.

Well I guess if everybody else in the tank is happy, I'm happy to leave it be. If it -is- a discarded tube, I assume the grass will simply go away once the nutrients are consumed? I guess I'll yank it out if I see the grass starting to die off, so as not to foul up the tank. (not sure if it would BTW?)

On another note, the cyclop-eeze flakes really does boost up the fish's color. I wasn't expecting that much of a difference.
