Ok, I think this is the starting of corraline algae, but who knows? Here's the history. I recently switched over from tap water to RO. The switch over occured over a period of about 3 weeks, doing water changes first daily, then weekly, now I'm at about once every 2 weeks. I did this all in January. I just recently put in Rowaphos, phosban to clean up PO4 left over from the tap water, etc.

These dots are appearing all over the back wall of the tank. I can't really get a good close up, because i have to stay in front of the tank to get a good shot. The side simply mirrors the length of the tank, and the dots are lost in the mirror.

They are only on the back wall, because I don't clean that at all, but let the snails, etc graze on it. The front and sides are cleaned on a regular basis.

The dots at close up appear to be circular, almost the starting of a tube worm, but not really. Here's two pics as best as I could....

Hey, Wings. They are little tube worms. This is a good sign.

Do a search for: Spirorbidae.
If you look at them up close they are actually spiral shaped animals, I'll see if I have a picture of them I can post.

That's exactly what it is... now, i'm interested, Mr. Mohr, how did you know this? If you found this in a book, which book?, and if you didn't, how do you remember these names?

Thanks so much for the info..it gives me something else to research! :)

I tend to leave mine alone on the back glass and the areas that I can't reach. They seem to prefer the shadier areas of the tank. I scrape the random spiorbid off if it's growing on the viewing areas. I've yet to come across anyone complaining that they've reached plaque proportions in the tank. Good water quality and skimming will keep the population in check.

Yup, the article above said that they thrive on suspended DOC... so unless you're Beaslbob, skimming should keep this in check. :)
