When I first saw this little guy, I thought it was aiptasia. However, it was the only one like it in the tank. The others were brown.

After a while, I noticed the yellow/tan coloration at the base and began to suspect it to be some sort of coral. It is small, with tentacles extended it might be an inch across.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Does it retract tentacles completely?

It almost looks like a cup coral (turbinara species IIRC).

Tentacles make it look like a curly-cue anemone though.

I hope it does turn out to be a jewel. As of now, though, it doesn't have much color. I looked up the Pseudocorynactics and the photo showed green tips on the tentacles, and the base not being visible. Whatever it is, it appears to be going strong.

That coral has a skeleton! So it is not an amenone.

I think it is one of the cup corals that is often seen on gulf live rock, such as, Phyllangia americana. There are many types of cup corals that come in on gulf/florida rock.

I agree, some sort of coral. Yesterday, I got a glimpse of it fully inflated, with skeleton barely visible. The flesh looked sort of red-orange, with a raised portion in the center that was light yellow - a mouth?
