Hitch Hicker on live rock.

I'm setting up my first marine tank and took this home on some live rock. First noticed it when i was putting the rock into the tank. It looked dead, as it was shrivled and closed up. After about 10 minutes it opened up and looks great. Was just curious what it is, love the neon green.

You got yourself a mushroom coral. Nice. 8) Possibly an Actinodiscus sp., but difficult to tell from this shot/with my level of expertise.

Given decent enough conditions (though they're not the fussiest of corals), it'll spread nicely and you'll have a little colony of the buggers after a few months. What's your lighting/other equipment (protein skimmer etc) like?

If you like it great, if you don't, and you want to grow SPS in a purist SPS-freak kind of way, it may be a problem down the line (in the sense of spreading all over the SPS), but otherwise this is a neat little hitchhiker.

I have a 55 gal tank that has been cycling for about 2 weeks. Has 260 Watt Power compact lighting with actinic blue and lunar lights, and a marine land seaclone 100 gallon skimmer. Ammonia is at .3 ppm, Nitrite is at .25. Only thing in the tank right now is about 30 pounds of live rock, and some live sand.

Lighting looks fine to me. The skimmer's not the best, so you might want to think about upgrading at some point. If you start a thread asking for advice in the General Reefkeeping forum, you'll get some recommendations.
