HELP with my DIY stand

so finally i was able to build my first diy stand. the problem is i stained it and didnt know when staining you have to wipe the excess off. then nwxt morning i saw the stand and it was not looking as what i wanted, it looks like burned wood like a charcoal. and i used elmers wood filler (stainable) btw the stain i used is a minwax wood finish. what should i do? should i just double coat it or just buy a wood paint to cover it.

What will happen if i double coat it?

the areas that are dark will get darker.

You may also want to try the gel stains. Ive found them easier to apply evenly but def +1 on having to resand.

yeah i did the same thing when i did my stand you cannot restain because it will be darker you gotta sand down buddy and when u poly give it first coat let it dry over night then wet sand it to get all the bubbles put then poly it again

Sanded it and applied lacquer thinner to lighten it. Now it looks like antique finish lol thanks for the advice
