Well I been searching high and low for a cabinet for my 28 jbj nano cube and decided to build my own.i calculated all the material to amount to roughly 100 bucks.
Slight design change besides using the 2x3's instead of 2x4's ,there really wasn't a need for the inside vertical supports.after building the frame alone me and my buddy decided to test the strength of it by having both of us sitting on it and rocking it(basically trying to break it) I weigh 215 and he is a little heavier so I think it is good!
I made a template of the rim to cut out of plywood to hide the bottom grey rim,and yes I know the rim is 1 1/4 inch(1/2 plywood plus 3/4 corner round molding=1 1/4) so I'm going to use 3/4 round corner trim around the base....and while I'm there might as well make the tank rimless!sure why not!dont worry it will make more sense with pictures....stay tuned!
thanks!!! I hear that ...I have the chiller underneath also..the stand that comes with the tank is crap and it doesn't match the rest of the furniture in my living room.i spent a little more cause I went with the birch plywood rather than regular plywood
Nice! I've just started my DIY of a JBJ 28 stand. Going a slightly different route with it more or less matching the footprint of the tank. I'll be following your build.
Spent the whole day cleaning the tank and removing the rim which went flawless only problem is I ended up putting a crack in the back getting the protein skimmer out,so now I'm in search for a 28 nano:letitallo
Sorry to hear bro. Ive been thinking about getting a 60 gal cube soon. Ill see what the GF has to say and let you know if you are interested in a used one.
After all the backbreaking work of building the stand and cleaning out the tank as well as removing the rim there is a light at the end of the tunnel.im buying a 34 solana.as of right now I have the chiller running from the main tank with 2 pumps, one pump for the chiller and one circulating.it looks like a bad science project.my lights are on everything seems happy till later when it's all ripped apart again.in the end ill be happier with the new tank.....stay tuned.....
