I bought a DIY LED light a few years ago form a fellow member - anyway had a little trouble in the tank, tripped the outlet and when I reset the white string is no longer working....

how can I trouble shoot it to see what I the issue is?

Thanks in advance.

First, unplug the main cord, use AA battery led tester to check individual led. If all lights up, then its either loose wire (wire came off from the solder point) or exposed wire touching other metal parts like your heat sink and causing a short. If you cant find anything wrong, the driver must have went bad.

yes and it did not work - but I was not able to isolate all the connections and wiring and before I buy a new one I wanted to confirm the driver was fried - how long do drivers last?

I would imagine drivers last years but it all depends on their output, environment they are in (e.g. humid sump area for example) etc. You would need a multimeter to test any electrical output from the driver if you wanted to test.

Actually, you would need a multimeter anyway even if you get a new driver to measure and limit the output from the driver so you don't overrun your LED strip and burn them out.
