Plumbing a bung on a 55 Gal drum

I want to put barbed fittings on either side of the bung cap hower cap doesn't off much room on the threads. I can seem to find any long 3/4 inch nipples in order to connect the barbed fitttings to. any ideas or suggestions?

the 55 gal drum will be vertical. the cap has 3/4 female threads. however they aren't very deep. http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/item.aspx?itemid=40048&catid=543, I am trying to get a barbed fitting on either side of that in order to pump water out of the barrel
