need waste container idea's

Hey Everyone,

I'm looking for some idea's for an inclosed waste container for my skimmer. My Wife is getting Pissed with the smell from the skimmer, it's stinking out the basement.

get a 5 gallon bucket from home depot with a lid drill a hole big enough only to fit the size of the tubing running from the skimmer to the top lid of the 5 gallon bucket... ive also heard people putting carbon in there skimmate containers to take care of some of the smell (i dont no how well that works, i neva tried it)... if you want something smaller u can go to kmart or something and get them martha stewart 1-3 gallon jugs with lids and do the same thing...

what you would have to do if you dont have it, is go to home depot get your self a plastic threaded to a slip connection (i dont no the exact name of em) and tubing to run from the bottom of ur skimmer cup to your bucket... and of course drill the hole for it in the bottom of the cup... use enough teflon or silicone the threaded part and screw it right in the to hole u drilled on the bottom of the cup...

Empty it more often... or tell her to empty it when it starts to smell!

Carbon may help a bit, or you may be able to plumb it directly into your drain.

Drill a 5 gallon to run the skimmate into, then put one of these over the hole in the top you drill to let the air out.

If you are sure you will not overflow your skimmer into your tank/sump, put a tablespoon of bleach into the skimmer cup. It will kill the bacteria that causes the smell.

For safety let the skimmate drain into a bucket and have the bleach in the bucket. No need to worry.
