My 75 gallon tank currently has two 250 watt halide bell pendants. On Sunday I added a bunch of extra sand that had decreased over the yerars so now the live rock structure is about 6 inches higher than before. This pushed the live rock very close to the surface. Becouse the live rock is close to the surface the corals in the middle are getting very little light now.

I want to use my old 175 watt ballast to add a pendant inbetween the other two. I originally was planning on finding an empty bell pendant to use but realized that would be bad. I am planning on mounting the pendant directly over the center brace and the bell pendants light seems focused straight down. So I have decided to build my own pendant.

I read this article
http://www.animalnetwork.com/fish2/...uct/default.asp
and it shows that the spiderlight reflector focuses the light in an arc so that the weakest light is in the center(right over my brace) and the strongest light is to the sides(in my tank). That made me think that the spider light would be good.

But the spider light is 16 inches long and my tank is 18 inches so I would not be able to hang it like my other pendents 6 inches above the water without wasteing light.

I noticed the PFO optimum reflector was only 12 inches http://www.atlantisaquatic.com/reflectors12.html
Does anyone know if the PFO also focuses the light in the arc pattern that would be good for me.

The PFO reflector is similar to the spiderlight reflector but smaller as you have indicated. It should do nearly as well as the spider, maybe even lightly better for your application as it will focus the light over a smaller area.
