i have a 200 g oceanic tank,i also have a old 30g metal frame tank
could i use the 30 for a sump tank? im new at this big tank thing so
your ideas are surely welcome.also has anybody messed with a berlin
air lift skimmers are they any good?

Roger,
I would not use that 30 for your sump. I would suggest looking for an acrylic sump or even something with a refugium. The important thing is that acrylic is easy to drill yourself considering you will want to run a good size external pump like an Iwaki it's best to run your plumbing through the side of the sump.
